Between Franklin Avenue and Booth Drive, four separate things stack on top of each other in less than a mile of walkable town: a ten-day restaurant promotion, a Sunday farmers market, a Rotary car show that shuts down a block, and a gastropub calendar that runs live music four nights a week.
Locals already know each piece. What most residents miss is that they're geographically stitched together. You can eat a Foodie Week prix fixe on Franklin, walk five minutes to the market on Booth Drive the next morning, and be back on Franklin the following weekend for the car show without moving your car once. Here's how the pieces line up in 2026.
Restaurant & Foodie Week is the anchor, not a sideshow
Nearly two dozen local eateries participate in Restaurant & Foodie Week, running Aug. 18–28 in its third year, with special menus, discounts and signature dishes from restaurants, cafés, delis and other specialty shops backed by the Nutley Chamber of Commerce. The 2026 Chamber calendar lists the window as Mon Aug 17 2026 - Thu Aug 27 2026, so confirm dates with the individual restaurant before you book.
What separates this promotion from a NYC-style restaurant week is the price band. NYC's version runs its own summer program in the same window, but at a different scale of restaurant. Nutley's is a neighborhood promotion by a neighborhood chamber. A sample of the deals published for the promotion:

Historically the promotion has also pulled in Nutley Diner, Pita Bowl, The Oakley Kitchen + Cocktails, and The Sweet Life Cafe among the participating businesses on the Chamber's roster.
Bacarosa is worth calling out separately because it's the newest room on Franklin. Bacarosa held its grand opening at 238 Franklin Avenue in August 2025, taking over the space that previously housed the Franklin Steakhouse and then The Hudson Rose. The menu features artisan pizzas, pastas, and dishes like king salmon crudo, steak tartare, octopus carpaccio, grilled artichokes and wood grilled prawns. That's the third concept in that address in roughly four years, and the reason the Foodie Week prix fixe is a useful entry point: it's a low-commitment way to see whether the third try has stuck.
The Chamber caps the week with two other things worth knowing about. A Networking Luncheon at The Oakley Kitchen runs Thu Aug 20 2026, 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm, and a Business Mixer at Proponent Federal Credit Union runs Thu Aug 27 2026, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm. Neither is a general public event, but they explain why some restaurants are busier on those specific afternoons.
The Sunday market that closes the loop
Five minutes' walk off Franklin Avenue, the market runs longer than most residents realize. The 16th season of the Nutley Farmers Market runs every Sunday 9am-2pm from June 15th through October 26th, located along Booth Drive between Nutley High School, the Nutley Public Library and the Park Oval, with parking available in the Nutley High School parking lot as well as on the street.
The reason to time a market visit to the Foodie Week window is simple. Once the market wraps in late October, the next thing Booth Drive offers is winter. You have roughly eight Sundays left in the 2026 season after Labor Day, and the produce mix shifts week to week. September 13: the block turns into a car show
The Rotary event is the kind of thing that catches new residents off guard the first time. The Nutley Rotary Car Show is happening on Sun 13 Sep 2026 from 1:00 PM onwards at 343 Franklin Ave, Nutley. The address puts it in the middle of the same corridor as most of the Foodie Week restaurants, which means parking on that Sunday afternoon behaves nothing like a normal Sunday afternoon.
Two practical notes for residents who live within a few blocks. First, if you're a Foodie Week regular who wants a repeat visit to a Franklin Avenue restaurant, plan the sit-down for a Friday or Saturday earlier in the promotion rather than the Sunday of the car show, unless you actually want the car show to be part of the meal. Second, if you have a driveway on a side street off Franklin, this is the weekend where you find out how well your neighbors respect it.
The Oakley's weekly rhythm
The Oakley Kitchen has quietly become the highest-frequency live-programming spot on this stretch of Franklin. Their published calendar shows a repeating weekly pattern rather than one-off shows, which is what makes it useful to residents rather than day-trippers.
- Tuesday nights, 8:30–10 PM: Open Mic Comedy, starting on Tuesday June 23rd 2026 and running every Tuesday, with 5-minute prepared material welcome.
- Thursday nights, 5–11 PM: KaraOakley karaoke every Thursday, described as "talented customers at the Oakley" who "can hang with these inspiring singers" for anyone who wants to sing or just enjoy the show.
- Fridays: Live jazz sets running 7–10 PM on select Friday evenings.
- Late August into September Saturdays: An Acoustic Release set 8–11 PM on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, following a lighter weeknight run.
That rhythm matters because it changes how Foodie Week actually plays out. If you're picking one night, Tuesday and Thursday are the two evenings where a $40 prix fixe becomes a full night out without a second ticket purchase.
A late-August Saturday into Sunday, mapped
If you want the compressed version of everything above, this is the two-day sequence that uses all of it without doubling back:
- Saturday, 6:30 PM. Foodie Week prix fixe at Bacarosa (238 Franklin) or Cowan's Public. Book earlier in the week; Fridays and Saturdays fill first.
- Saturday, 9 PM. Walk to The Oakley Kitchen for whatever's on the Saturday calendar. Acoustic sets carry to 11 PM.
- Sunday, 9:30 AM. Coffee, then five minutes on foot to the farmers market on Booth Drive. Aim for before 11 AM if you want the fuller vendor spread before the mid-morning crowd.
- Sunday, noon. Cross into Yanticaw Park, 28.75 acres in Nutley traversed by the Third River, located between Centre Street and Chestnut Street and extending west to Passaic Avenue. Pack lunch from the market. No car.
- The following Sunday, Sept 13, 1 PM. Rotary Car Show at 343 Franklin. Walk if you're within half a mile; the parking on Franklin will be gone by then.
The point of the pattern
The reason to spell this out is that Nutley's late-summer window looks quieter than it is. Franklin Avenue is a mile-and-change of storefronts that most of the year hosts individual businesses doing their own thing. For roughly three weeks in August into September, the Chamber, a Rotary chapter, a county-run park with the Third River running through it, and a gastropub with a four-night-a-week calendar all put programming on top of the same corridor. A resident who treats these as four unrelated calendar entries misses the layering. A resident who plans one weekend around the overlap gets a version of the town that non-residents don't see.
